Having working in the property industry since the early 1980s, I’m passionate about running my own company.
I first came to Barnsley in 1985 and worked for some of the leading names in the business before launching Butcher Residential.
Although I direct every aspect of the business, my favourite part is still meeting and helping our customers. What drives me more than anything is giving people valuable, relevant guidance to enable them to achieve their aims – whether that’s driven by price, timescale or other factors. Good, fair and well implemented advice is the most important aspect of what we do.
Personally, I’m a traditionalist and always warm to older period homes, particularly where a large welcoming hall is in evidence. I really believe a large hall can make a home.
Like any managing director, I handle the running of the company and Butcher Residential is a hugely rewarding place to work.
I love the fact that we have blossomed into such a welcoming estate agency. Our organisation is small enough for us to give each customer personal guidance and advice from beginning to end. Our staff are here to help you and because we’re such a tight-knit team, we can act without endless committee meetings which frees up more time for us to spend on our customers.
We deal with hundreds of properties each year but my ideal home would have a large, very posh kitchen – one which I’d never use for cooking in case it got messy!

I deal with day to day lettings administration, including processing applications and rent payments. With 15 years’ experience in the industry, my favourite aspect of the job is establishing relationships with both landlords and tenants.
