Elf on a Shelf Christmas trails - help us find the elves hiding in Barnsley!

A bunch of cheeky elves have arrived in Barnsley from the North Pole and are hiding on our high streets. Santa’s mischievous little helpers are hiding in 42 businesses across the borough. Can you find these cheeky elves and tell us their names so they can make their way home in time for Christmas?

All you need to do to help the elves is take part in the Elf on a Shelf Christmas trail and have some festive fun with the added bonus of the chance to win a Barnsley Gift Card! All the elves have names, and we need you to tell us what they are. In the windows of participating businesses, you'll see a sign that says ‘Find an elf here’. Use the QR code on the sign to access a digital trail card, download one below or collect one from the locations mentioned. The trail cards include the names of the shops hiding the elves, making it a little bit easier to find them and help them get back to the North Pole so they can carry on making all the toys in time for Santa to deliver.

When you find a shop that’s hiding an elf, pop inside and find the elf (who'll be wearing a name tag) and write down his or her name on the trail card. When you've found all the elves and completed the trail you can email your trail card to competitions@barnsley.gov.uk or take it to one of the locations mentioned below.

Each week throughout December a prize draw will take place and the winners will be contacted to let them know they've won a Barnsley Gift Card worth £10 that can be spent in 170 businesses across Barnsley. In total there are £1200 worth of Barnsley Gift Cards up for grabs – just in time for Christmas and perfect to treat yourself or spoil someone special over the festive season.

There are seven ‘Elf on the Shelf’ Christmas Trails happening across the borough:

Barnsley town centre

12 town centre businesses are hiding the elves. Just pop in, spot the elf, find out their name and add your answer to the trail card. You can collect a trail card from the Customer Service desk in Barnsley Market or download the Barnsley town centre elf trail card here.

When you've completed the trail and filled in the card you can post it in the post box in Barnsley Market next to the Customer Service desk or email your answers to competitions@barnsley.gov.uk

10 winners will be drawn every Wednesday on 8, 15 and 22 December 2021.

Principal Towns

The cheeky elves are hiding on the high streets of Cudworth, Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Penistone, Royston and Wombwell. There are five elves on each high street.

Collect a trail card from the local library in your Principal Town or download it below. When you've completed the trail take your card back to the reception desk in the library.

Five winners will be drawn every Friday on 10, 17 and 24 December 2021.

Christmas at the Priory

Adam Fitz Swain’s 12th-century priory of St. Mary Magdalene at Lundwood, Barnsley is also known as Monk Bretton Priory. It was a daughter house of St Johns Priory for Cluniac monks, founded by Ilbert de Laci (de Lacy) near to his base at Pontefract Castle.

The Monk Bretton Priory will be hosting a fabulous Christmas event this year on the 11th and 12th of December 2021 from 11am to 4pm. There will be a brass band, carol singers, children's rides, games, mulled wine, festive food, donkey rides and stalls. This is a magical place to take the children and visitors flock here from all over Barnsley each year.
