The height of the market town itself is approximately 820 feet (250 meters) above mean sea level, and this is measured around the area that St. John's Church occupies. On the other hand, in the direction of Cubley and Thurlstone Moors, the surrounding area's terrain rises to a significantly higher altitude than 300 metres (1,000 feet). In addition, the land rises significantly higher than 1,200 feet (370 metres) in the direction of the smaller hamlets at Carlecotes, Victoria, Dunford, and Crow Edge.
