Great news for gardeners and homeowners in Barnsley! Barnsley Council’s green bin collections will resume from Tuesday, 2nd April 2025, just in time for the start of spring. If you’ve been busy tidying up your garden, now is the perfect time to ensure your green waste is properly disposed of.

When Will My Green Bin Be Collected in the Borough of Barnsley (BMBC)?

Collections will follow your usual bin schedule, so make sure to have your green bin out by 6am on your designated collection day. You can check your specific collection dates on the Barnsley Council website here: Check your bin day.

What Can Go in Your Green Bin?

Your green bin is for garden waste only. This includes:

  • Grass cuttings
  • Leaves
  • Hedge clippings
  • Small branches and twigs
  • Plants and weeds (excluding invasive species)
  • Flowers

What Can’t Go in Your Green Bin?

The following items are not permitted in your green bin:

  • Soil and rubble
  • Plastic bags
  • General household waste
  • Food waste
