With temperatures of up to 27 Degrees forecast this week, it's safe to say that Summer 2022 has definitely arrived! We've put together a bunch of fun activities and events in and around Yorkshire which we think are great for the whole family - and they are all within an hour's drive from junction 36 on the M1 just on the outskirts of Barnsley. With the extra Bank Holiday this Summer courtesy of Her Royal Majesty's Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend, we are spoilt for choice for things to do in and around Yorkshire this year! Here are just some of the attractions you can be expected to find at the Otley Show this year: Paul Hannam Quad Bike Stunt Show, SMJ Birds of Prey Display, The Sheep Show, Terrier Racing, Giant Tortoises, Stockhole Alpacas, Live Bands in the Music Tent and British Wool Demonstration with Spinners and Weavers. Platinum Jubilee Flypast Rehearsal
Tuesday 24th May 2022
On June 2, 2022, a large formation of military aircraft will form Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Flypast over Buckingham Palace. The rehearsals for this flypast are scheduled to take place from May 24th to May 27th, 2022. The rehearsals will begin near The Wash, The North Sea, and RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. Rehearsals are usually held on the first date (May 24, 2022), unless the weather is bad, in which case they will be held on the 26th or 27th. There will be no further rehearsals if the rehearsals on the 24th are successful. Here's a map and times of the expected flypast...
Area A - between 12.10pm and 1.10pm
Area B - between 12.30pm and 1.20pm
Area C - between 12.30pm and 1.20pm

Holmbridge Scarecrow Festival
Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022
During the extended Jubilee Weekend, the Holmbridge, Holme, and Hinchliffe Mill Scarecrow Festival will take place. 35 scarecrows will be placed throughout the villages, each one depicting a different historical figure from the Queen's reign. In addition to the Scarecrows, there will be competitions, cake stalls, pop-up cafes, and plenty of other activities to participate in. The event is a charity event and all donations will be split between Holme Junior, Hinchliffe Mill Junior and Holmbridge Pre-School and St.Davids Community projects. The Queen's Platinum Jubilee and Beacon Lighting Celebration in Penistone
Thursday 2nd June 6.30pm to 10pm
This will definitely be a party not to miss! The Lighting of the Beacon is a traditional event usually held at the Viewpoint on Roydmoor. However, this year, they will also be lighting a beacon at 9.45pm on Thursday 2nd June on the Penistone Show Field to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. There will be music, kid's activities, a bar and food, all starting from 6.30pm. It's free to attend. Please note, there will be no parking. Click here to visit the event's Facebook page.
Thurlstone Platinum Jubilee Celebration

Thurlstone F.C. and Thurlstone Community Group will be hosting its' own Platinum Jubilee Party on the Thurlstone Sports Field, High Bank. There will be a football match on (possibly in fancy dress!), brass band, funfair, hot and cold food, a beer tent DJ, dance performances, craft stalls and plenty of other activities for the whole family! Penistone Mayor's Parade & Gala Day
Sunday 12th June from 12 Noon all around Penistone
Last year was a great success, the town was heaving and there was so much to see and do! It was a lovely family afternoon out. Here's a breakdown of what's on this year: Jack and Paul's Fun Run (9am registration 10am start) Vander's Wheel of Death, Craft Stalls, Punch and Judy, Food Stalls, Licensed bar, Fun Fair, Open Mic afternoon, Classic Car Show. Entry fee is a small donation (£2.50 per adult). The event this year is in support of charities IDAS, Age UK Barnsley and The Lullaby Trust. Click here for the event's website.

Sheffield Food Festival
Thursday 2nd of June to Sunday 5th of June 2022
The annual Sheffield Food Festival, which takes place in the city centre and spans the Peace Gardens, Winter Gardens, Millennium Square, Town Hall Square, and Pinstone St, attracts thousands of visitors over the course of a weekend. The event coincides with Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, a time of celebration and unity! "Friends on the Farm" @ Cannon Hall Farm
Saturday 18th of June and Sunday 19th of June 2022
The all-star lineup will join Cannon Hall's Facebook famous farm team for a special weekend celebration that will include LIVE music from John Hopkinson's brass band. Jules Hudson (host of Springtime on the Farm), Peter Wright, Julian Norton, and Matt, Shona, and David from The Yorkshire Vet are among the guests. Jules Hudson will serve as host and MC for the Main Stage event, introducing Peter Wright (Saturday) and Julian Norton (Sunday.) The Second Stage will feature a rolling schedule of talks led by Cannon Hall's very own Farmer Darrell, who will be joined by several members of the Cannon Hall Farm farm team, as well as Matt (both days), David (Saturday), and Shona (Sunday).

Emley Show Society are pleased to announce that following a break of two years for reasons well beyond their control, plans are going ahead to hold the show in 2022. The show, once again, will be held at Factory Farm, Emley Moor, HD8 9TE by kind permission of the Hampshire family. Further details will be released at the beginning of 2022. All visitors to the museum are invited to join in with the fun and get dressed up in either civilian or military period clothing.
