Introduction to Denby Dale

So you're thinking of moving to Denby Dale? We've put together a little article for you to try and persuade you to do so! You may find out a few things about Denby Dale that you never knew even if you've lived here for years.

Denby Dale is a village and civil parish that falls under the Kirklees Borough Council in West Yorkshire. The civil parish covers the villages of Denby Dale, Lower Denby, Upper Denby, Upper Cumberworth, Lower Cumberworth, Skelmanthorpe, Emley, Emley Moor and Clayton West. By car, each city is between 30 and 45 minutes away and you're just a quick 10-minute drive junction 35 of the M1. This makes Denby Dale an ideal place to live if you regularly travel around the country.

The location is great if you have just found yourself now having to work from home, too. The lockdown imposed on us from the Covid-19 pandemic changed the way homeowners and tenants alike appreciate their homes. We now seek to have more outside space, we don't want to spend as long commuting and we want to live in a peaceful area. If you have found yourself, like millions of others, having to work from home - then you will most probably be looking for a house with an additional reception room, study, or spare bedroom to convert into a study or office. Denby Dale and its surrounding areas boast some fabulous houses for sale that tick all these boxes. The houses we sell in Denby Dale are typically Yorkshire terraced houses built in the early 1900s. We've also sold many quaint countryside cottages and large detached family homes in the area.

It's not just the properties here that tick all the boxes, Denby Dale itself and the surrounding villages are highly renowned throughout West Yorkshire as peaceful places to live.

History of Denby Dale

Denby Dale was formerly known as Denby Dyke. During the Industrial Revolution, however, it was renamed, Denby Dale. The Industrial Revolution transformed Denby Dale from a quiet agricultural town to a developing textile hub. Due to its location on the Penistone train line between Huddersfield and Sheffield, Denby Dale was able to provide raw materials and coal to the surrounding textile industries. Springfield Mill is actually where the Queen Mother's wedding dress was created!

You have heard Denby Dale being referred to as "The Pie Village". Denby Dale is known as the Pie Village because it's known for baking HUGE pies to celebrate special occasions. The first giant pie to be baked in Denby Dale was to celebrate the recovery of George III from illness in 1788. The pie baked to celebrate the Millenium was a massive 12 feet long and weighed in at 12 tonnes!
